Summer 2024
Hundreds of different phobias have been given names. Some phobias, like glossophobia (fear of public speaking), germophobia (fear of germs), or ophidiophobia (fear of snakes), may be more common. Other phobias, like porphyrophobia (fear of the color purple), pogonophobia (fear of beards), or anatidaephobia (fear of ducks), may be less common.
So many different things in life can cause us to be afraid, but repeatedly God tells us in his word not to be afraid. And he tells us not to be afraid because he gives us good reason not to be afraid. Throughout much of this summer, we will look at a number of different things we might be afraid of—and for each of them we will hear God tell us: “Do not be afraid.”
June 9 Do not be afraid of the devil and his demons.
June 16 Do not be afraid of the church becoming irrelevant.
June 23 Do not be afraid of drowning in the storms of life.
June 30 Do not be afraid of the permanence of death.
July 7 Do not be afraid of being rejected by your people.
July 14 Do not be afraid of failure as God’s messenger.
July 21 Do not be afraid of destructive leaders.
July 28 Do not be afraid of economic troubles.
August 4 Do not be afraid of being in the minority.
